K9 Track

K9 - Land HRD - Monday June 17, 18, 19, 2019.  Wednesday is a half day.

We will discuss scent theory, thresholding, and the importance of exposure (e.g. temperature, tissue types, and humidity) and acclimatization.  Handlers and observers will be exposed to a variety of different scenarios.  Successful search strategies will be discussed.

K9 - Water HRD - Wednesday June 19, 20, 21, 2019.  Wednesday is a half day.

Utilizing K9’s in water recoveries can be very stressful to both K9 and Handler.  A significant amount of stress and frustration is placed on a K9 during a water search due to the K9’s inability to access the source.  K9’s behavior is affected in a multitude of ways that the handler may not expect nor recognize.  It is this change in behavior that we will explore and train the handlers to recognize.

3 day workshop, working with Airscent dogs in both Wilderness and urban settings. Through scent exercises and classroom discussion with one on one instruction, we will build a reliable search dog.
